The Philadelphia Phillies have reached an agreement with Cuban right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, according to a source.

The deal is for six years and is worth $48 million in guaranteed money. It includes a vesting option for the seventh year at $11 million.

Soriano Left Money On Table To Win With Cubs In 2006

Alfonso Soriano's tenure with the Chicago Cubs is over.

Chicago traded Soriano to the New York Yankees on Friday morning. He signed a $136 million deal with the Cubs prior to the 2007 season.

Soriano admitted that he felt he was leaving money on the table to be part of something special in Chicago. There was at least one team that told his agent to let it beat any other offer before letting Soriano sign.

"I said, no, I just want to sign with Chicago because I want to be a champion in Chicago," he said.

Phillies Have No Comment On Utley Extension Talks

Ruben Amaro, Jr. has refused to comment on possible extension talks between the Philadelphia Phillies and Chase Utley.

"We don't talk about that," Amaro said.

Utley will be eligible for free agency after the season.

A person with knowledge of the situation claims that the two sides have discussed a new pact and that Philadelphia is not shopping Utley.

Pedroia's Extension With Red Sox Worth $110M Over Eight Seasons

The Red Sox have finalized what has become an eight-year, $110 million contract extension with Dustin Pedroia.

Pedroia had been signed for 2014 at $10 million under his old deal.

The deal calls for a signing bonus of $1 million, according to a source. It carries yearly salaries of $12.5 million for 2014 and 2015, $13 million in 2016, $15 million in 2017, $16 million in 2018, $15 million in 2019, $13 million in 2020 and $12 million on 2021.

Some of this money is deferred.
